HOME-STAT

Suggested by Rolene

Purchased a programmable thermostat - HOME-STAT from the web and this thermostat controls my cooling (& heating) and my existing water heater. When I go to work it tells the air conditioner not to cool and more importantly, shuts my water heater off. same for when we sleep. When we return from work the home is at the right temperature and the water in my water heater is hot. Cool and simple. The thermostat comes with a plug in device for the water heater and the two cummunicate wirless. Cool product and inexpensive $260.00 + tx & shipping. Tested and saves over 25% of energy.

  • $260 inexpensive?!

Wouldn't a timer work just as well? They are $30. One for the A/C and one for the hot water tank (assuming it is gas power vented). If it is electric, you'll have to get a somewhat more heavy duty timer, and probably need an electrician.
I also saw a thermostat that would turn a device on or off depending on the temperature (either hot or cold, too. So good for A/C or electric heater)... it was $30-40.
For $260, I say, save a little more and get a Powerpipe.

  • Don't be so sure you save

It takes a lot more effort for your ac unit to cool down your house then to maintain the cool temperature. You may not be saving as much as you think you are.
